Who Can Apply for the Marriage Assistance Scheme?
The scheme is not available to every family. The applicant has to meet the conditions set by the Social Welfare Department.
The family should fall under either the AAY or PHH ration card category. The girl should also be of legally marriageable age. The scheme guidelines further provide an education requirement, with the beneficiary required to have passed 8th class or an equivalent qualification from April 1, 2025.
The application should also be submitted before the marriage. The scheme guidelines require the application to be made at least one month before the marriage date.
There is another condition that families should keep in mind. The same girl cannot receive marriage assistance more than once under the scheme. The guidelines also contain restrictions where financial assistance for the same purpose has already been received under another applicable government scheme.

How Much Money Is Given Under the Scheme?
The assistance depends on the family’s ration card category.
AAY Families
Eligible girls from Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families can avail of a one-time marriage assistance of ₹75,000.
The increase was effective from 1st April 2025 when J&K Government revised earlier assistance of ₹50,000 for AAY families.
PHH Families
For eligible girls belonging to Priority Household (PHH) families, the assistance remains ₹50,000 as a one-time payment.
How Is the Marriage Assistance Paid?
The assistance is transferred directly to the beneficiary’s bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
This means the applicant needs to provide the required bank details and complete the account-related requirements mentioned in the application.
The payment is made as a one-time assistance, not as a monthly benefit. The 2025 government order specifically provides for the financial assistance to poor girls of marriageable age under the scheme.

How Is the Application Verified?
Once the application is submitted, the information and supporting documents are checked by the concerned authorities.
The J&K government scheme information describes a process involving the concerned Tehsildar, District Social Welfare Officer and Deputy Commissioner before the payment is released.
The verification is meant to establish that the applicant meets the conditions of the scheme and that the documents submitted with the application are valid.
How Long Does the Application Take?
The current JanSugam service page gives a 30-day service delivery period for the Marriage Assistance Scheme. Government holidays are not included in this period.

If the information is incomplete or a required document is missing, the application may need further checking.
Can the Same Girl Get Marriage Assistance More Than Once?
No. The scheme guidelines provide for the assistance to be given only once to an eligible beneficiary.
The guidelines also contain a restriction where the beneficiary has already received financial assistance for the same purpose under another applicable government scheme.
